Do I need to run the Mac app?

Yes. Music Remote Control must be running on your Mac whenever you use the iPhone or iPad app, Home Screen widget, or Live Activity.

How do the different apps work?

How do I connect my mobile device?

  1. Open Music Remote Control on the Mac.
  2. Open Music Remote on the iPhone or iPad.
  3. Allow Local Network access when requested.
  4. Keep both devices nearby with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth enabled.
  5. Wait for them to connect automatically. No pairing code is required.

What can I control?

Why doesn’t Suggest Less appear immediately in Music.app?

Music.app may continue showing a cached value for the currently playing song after Music Remote Control successfully applies Suggest Less. If the song is in your library, right-click it there. If the menu shows Undo Suggest Less, the rating was applied correctly. After you quit and reopen Music.app, its player interface should show the updated value.

What is Window Mode on Mac?

Window Mode displays the Mac mini player with artwork, song information, playback progress, transport controls, volume, and AirPlay controls. Right-click the mini player to open the app menu.

What does Pin do?

Pin keeps the Mac mini player above windows. The setting is remembered the next time the app opens.

What is Menu Bar Mode?

Menu Bar Mode hides the mini-player window and places compact Previous, Play/Pause, Next, and Favorite controls in the macOS menu bar. The current song title is also displayed there.

Click the song title and choose Switch to Window Mode to restore the mini player.

Why isn’t the Mac app in the Dock?

Music Remote Control is designed as a menu-bar utility. Look for its icon or the current song title in the macOS menu bar.

What do the connection icons mean on iPhone/iPad?

Tap the status icon to display a written status message.

Why is the artwork missing?

Apple Music does not always make artwork available to other apps. Artwork may be unavailable when listening to radio-style content such as Discovery Station, personalized stations, or some live stations.

This is an Apple Music API limitation and does not mean the connection has failed. Playback controls and song information will continue to work normally.

How do I add the Home Screen widget on iOS?

  1. Touch and hold an empty area of the Home Screen.
  2. Choose Edit or the Add Widget button.
  3. Search for Music Remote.
  4. Select the small or medium widget.
  5. Add it to the Home Screen.

Does the mobile app need to be open for the widget?

The mobile app does not need to remain visible. However, the Music Remote Control Mac app must be running.

What does the Live Activity provide?

After the mobile app connects to the Mac, the Live Activity provides Previous, Play/Pause, Next, and Favorite controls.

Apple Watch support is provided through the iPhone Live Activity. It is not a separate Watch app.

Why doesn’t the Live Activity appear?

What does the AirPlay screen control?

It controls AirPlay destinations available to Apple Music on the Mac. It does not control the iPhone or iPad system audio output.

A checkmark indicates a selected destination. A lock indicates that the destination is protected. Individual volume controls appear for selected AirPlay outputs.

Why is an AirPlay device missing?

  1. Confirm that the device appears in Apple Music on the Mac.
  2. Open the AirPlay screen and tap Refresh.
  3. Confirm that the Mac and AirPlay device are on a compatible network.
  4. Quit and reopen Apple Music if its AirPlay list appears stale.

How does the free trial work?

The Mac app provides a free 14-day trial of all remote-control features. Starting the trial does not create an automatic charge.

When the trial ends, purchase the one-time Full Unlock to continue using the remote features. There is no subscription.

Where do I purchase or restore access?

Trial, purchase, and restoration options are available in the Mac app. Open its menu and select the purchase-status item. Use Restore Purchases if you previously purchased Full Unlock with the same Apple Account.

The mobile app cannot find my Mac

The connection remains stuck

Restart both Music Remote apps in this order:

  1. On iPhone or iPad, open the App Switcher and swipe Music Remote away.
  2. On Mac, open the Music Remote Control menu and choose Quit Music Remote Control.
  3. Reopen Music Remote Control on the Mac first.
  4. Wait a few seconds.
  5. Reopen Music Remote on the iPhone or iPad.

The apps connect, but the controls don’t work

The widget does nothing

Confirm that the Mac app is running, the devices are nearby, Local Network access is enabled, Apple Music is available, and remote access is active. The widget may take several seconds to discover the Mac and may not display an error if the Mac cannot be reached.

Playback works, but artwork does not

Try playing a regular album track from your library. If that artwork appears, the connection is working correctly and the missing station artwork is due to the Apple Music API limitation described above.
